Terence Crawford and Vergil Ortiz Jr might face off in a big fight soon. Oscar De La Hoya, a well-known boxing promoter, thinks it's very likely to happen.
Crawford, known as 'Bud', is 37 years old and comes from Omaha, Nebraska. He's won world titles in four weight divisions and has been undisputed champion at super lightweight and welterweight. Right now, he's getting ready for what many call the biggest fight in boxing. He's set to face Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in September at super middleweight. If Crawford wins, he'll be the first male fighter in the four-belt era to be undisputed champion in three weight classes.
On the other side, Vergil Ortiz Jr is a 26-year-old fighter from Texas. He's the WBC 'Interim' champion and has a perfect record of 23 wins, with 21 of those by knockout. Ortiz Jr recently defended his title against Madrimov in Riyadh on February 22.
De La Hoya talked about the potential fight in an interview with iFL TV. He said:
"It's very likely [Crawford fights Ortiz] now that Riyadh Season and Your Excellency is in the picture and with DAZN, the sky is the limit."
De La Hoya thinks the fight will be easy to make. He added:
"These types of fights, they're easier to make, they're fights that the fans want to see and I really, truly think that this fight can be made without a hitch."
Crawford moved up to super welterweight last August when he beat WBA champion Israil Madrimov in Los Angeles. The fight with Canelo will be his first time fighting above 154lbs, and some people wonder if he's pushing himself too far.
Before Crawford can fight Canelo, Canelo needs to beat IBF champion William Scull in May. If the Crawford-Canelo fight doesn't happen, Ortiz Jr might look to fight WBC and WBO champion Sebastian Fundora instead.
