Joseph Parker's Weigh-In Surprise Raises Questions About Bakole Bout: "I've Never Felt This Strong"

Joseph Parker stepped on the scales at a career-high 267 pounds for his last-minute fight against Martin Bakole. The bout replaces Parker's originally scheduled match with Daniel Dubois for the IBF World Heavyweight Title at Riyadh Season's co-main event.

Parker, the New Zealander, came in 20 pounds heavier than his last fight in March 2024, where he weighed 247 pounds for his twelve-round points win over Zhilei Zhang. His previous career heaviest was 255 pounds for his 2022 bout against Joe Joyce, which ended in an eleventh-round stoppage loss.

Bakole, known as the heavyweight division's dangerman, got the call just two days ago. He didn't make it to the weigh-in on time but is expected to come in big.

The sudden change came after Dubois, the IBF World Heavyweight Champion, had to pull out due to a viral infection. Despite the short notice, Parker showed up in fantastic shape for the weigh-in.

"I felt great at 247 for the Zhang fight, but I've put on some muscle for this one," Parker said. "Bakole's a tough opponent, but I'm ready for whatever he brings."

Parker's team believes the extra weight might work in his favor. They plan to use movement and speed in the first half of the fight, weathering any storm before taking advantage of Bakole's late addition to the card.

The fight will take place in Riyadh, with the expected ringwalk time at 9:15 PM UK time. On the same card, Zhilei Zhang will face Agit Kabayel in another heavyweight clash.

This last-minute change has added an extra layer of intrigue to an already packed event. Boxing fans will surely be in for an entertaining night as these heavyweights clash in unexpected circumstances.
