Tyson Fury called it quits at the start of 2025. The former two-time world heavyweight champion hung up his gloves after losing two fights in a row to Oleksandr Usyk.

Fury made the announcement a couple of weeks after his second loss to Usyk. The first fight happened in May 2024, where Fury lost his WBC belt and failed to become the undisputed champion after a close 12-round battle. The rematch in December 2024 ended with another points loss for Fury.

These losses came as a surprise to many fans. Fury had built a stellar career, including dethroning Wladimir Klitschko on away soil in 2015. He also had a memorable trilogy with Deontay Wilder, drawing the first fight and winning the next two by knockout.

Before Fury's retirement, there was talk about a potential fight with British rival Anthony Joshua. Both fighters were without world title belts at the time. Joshua had lost twice to Usyk and failed to beat IBF champion Daniel Dubois in September 2024.

Barry Hearn, the Matchroom promoter, shared his thoughts on Fury's retirement in an interview:

"Someone said to me the other day, what I do think of Fury's retirement and I said it sounded like $10m. He said what do you mean, and I said I think that's the extra he wants. Maybe I'm being cynical, maybe he has fallen out of love with boxing."

Hearn's words suggest Fury's retirement might be a way to get an extra $10 million for his next fight.

As of now, Fury remains retired. He's keeping busy by working as a full-time trainer for his wife. Fury shared this update in an Instagram post.

The boxing world will watch closely to see if Fury stays retired or if he'll step back into the ring for another big payday.
