Gervonta 'Tank' Davis wants to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. The undefeated boxer with world titles in three weight classes called out the retired champion during a recent interview.
Davis, 30, from Baltimore, Maryland, has won all 30 of his professional fights since starting his career in 2013. He currently holds the WBA lightweight title and has beaten top fighters like Leo Santa Cruz, Ryan Garcia, and Yuriorkis Gamboa.
When asked about his dream fight on A Safe Place Podcast, Davis simply said:
"Me vs. Floyd [Mayweather]."
Mayweather, now 47, retired from professional boxing in 2017 after beating MMA star Conor McGregor to reach a perfect 50-0 record. Since then, he's taken part in exhibition fights against Tenshin Nasukawa, Logan Paul, and Aaron Chalmers. He's left the door open for a potential return in 2025, but hasn't made any official announcements.
The call-out is interesting because Mayweather played a big role in Davis' early career. But their relationship went bad in 2022, and they stopped working together suddenly. Since then, people have talked about them possibly fighting each other.
Right now, Davis is focused on his next fight. He'll defend his WBA lightweight title against Lamont Roach on March 1 in New York City. It's unlikely we'll see Davis vs Mayweather anytime soon, but in boxing, you can never say never.
