Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, who both fighters have called out in the past, shared his thoughts on the match-up with IFL TV:
"It's gonna be a good fight. 50/50 fight."
After failing to secure a fight with Canelo at super-middleweight, both Benavidez and Morrell decided to move up to light-heavyweight. Some, like former world champion Paulie Malignaggi, have claimed Canelo 'ducked' both fighters.
Benavidez comes into the fight as the favorite. He made his light-heavyweight debut in June 2024 with a unanimous decision win over Oleksandr Gvozdyk. It was only the fifth time in his undefeated career that Benavidez has gone the distance.
Morrell, the big-punching Cuban, also remains undefeated. He stepped up to 175lbs in August 2024, beating Radivoje Kalajdzic over the distance. Many in the industry are backing Morrell's power and size to make the difference in this fight.
The winner of tonight's main event will be first in line with both the WBC and WBA. They'll likely face the winner of the undisputed rematch between Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol happening later this month.
You can find more information about the fight on the Premier Boxing Champions website.
