Usyk has made a name for himself as one of the top heavyweights today. He's the unified WBC, WBA, and WBO heavyweight champion. Last December, he beat Tyson Fury for the second time in a row in Riyadh. This win cemented his spot as possibly the best heavyweight of his generation.
Before that, Usyk had already done some impressive things. He became the undisputed heavyweight champion by beating Fury last May. And back in 2018, he conquered the cruiserweight division, becoming the undisputed champion there too when he beat Murat Gassiev in the World Boxing Super Series final.
But recently, Usyk gave up his IBF title. This led to Daniel Dubois being named the full champion. Dubois then defended his title against Anthony Joshua last September, winning by knockout in the fifth round.
In a chat with iFL TV, Bruno shared his thoughts on how Usyk would have done in his era:
"I don't think in my era he would have got this far. In his era, he's done very well. I'm not being b****y when I say that, I'm only talking from the heart. He wouldn't have stood [a chance with the likes of Lennox Lewis]. They're too big heavyweights for him, naturally big guys, you know."
Bruno's not trying to be mean. He's just saying that the heavyweight boxers from his time, like Lewis, were naturally bigger than Usyk. But he does give Usyk credit for doing well in today's boxing world.
Usyk, who's 37 now, has said he'll keep boxing. He might even try to become a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion by fighting Daniel Dubois again. There's also talk about Usyk possibly moving back down to 200 pounds. If he does, he might face Jai Opetaia, the IBF champion who's keen to fight Usyk soon.
