Liam Smith, who fought Eubank Jr twice, shared his thoughts on the upcoming bout. Smith will also return to the ring this year.
Smith knows both fighters well. He knocked out Eubank Jr in January 2023, putting him down for the first time in his pro career. But Eubank Jr got his revenge in December, stopping Smith in the 10th round.
"They've both got frailties, both got vulnerabilities and both got strengths. I think it'll be a good fight."
Smith pointed out that both fighters can be hurt. He said Eubank Jr can be caught off guard, and Benn has been knocked down by less skilled opponents before.
The fight was originally planned for 2022 but got cancelled when Benn failed a drug test. Now, it's back on, and it's a big deal because Benn is moving up two weight classes from his natural welterweight division.
Smith doesn't think the size difference will be a big problem. He said:
"Anyone can be knocked out with small gloves. If Chris is not looking, anyone can be flattened. Conor's been down off journeymen."
Eubank Jr had to cut a lot of weight for the cancelled Benn fight in 2022. That might have affected him in his first fight with Smith. In their rematch, Smith had some issues that hurt his performance.
The upcoming Eubank Jr vs Benn fight looks set to be an exciting matchup. Both fighters have shown they can be hurt, but they also have the power to end the fight at any moment. With Benn moving up in weight and Eubank Jr looking to prove himself, fans can expect a thrilling bout in April.
