Oleksandr Usyk, fresh off his second victory over Tyson Fury, has picked two potential opponents for his next fight. The Ukrainian southpaw, widely seen as the top heavyweight of his era, aims to cement his legacy further.
Usyk defended his WBC, WBA, and WBO heavyweight titles last month when he beat Fury by unanimous decision on December 21. This win followed their first meeting in May, where Usyk became the first undisputed heavyweight champion of the four-belt era.
At 38, Usyk isn't slowing down. He plans to keep his impressive career going, with wins over Fury, Anthony Joshua, and Daniel Dubois already under his belt.
Looking ahead, Usyk has set his sights on becoming a two-time undisputed champion by 2025. He's eyeing two possible routes to achieve this goal.
One option is to face the winner of the upcoming IBF heavyweight title fight. Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker will battle it out for this belt on February 22 in Riyadh.
Promoter Frank Warren shared some inside information about Usyk's plans:
"Oleksandr told me at the weekend he will fight the winner of Daniel v Joseph Parker to try to become undisputed heavyweight champion a second time."
The other path Usyk's considering is a return to the cruiserweight division. He's shown interest in dropping back down before, and now there's a specific challenger in mind. Jai Opetaia, the current IBF champion, called Usyk out just minutes after beating David Nyika earlier this month.
Whichever route he chooses, Usyk's next fight will be crucial as he works towards his goal of double undisputed status. Boxing fans will be watching closely to see which of these two options the Ukrainian champion picks for his next challenge in the ring.
