Terence Crawford and Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez are getting close to a big fight in September. The boxing world's buzzing about this possible match-up between two of the best fighters around.
Crawford's coming off a win against Israil Madrimov for the WBA super welterweight title in August. He's already a four-division world champion, but he's looking to move up in weight to challenge Canelo.
Canelo, the 34-year-old Mexican star, holds the WBC, WBA, and WBO super middleweight titles. He's been the top dog at 168 pounds for a while now. But he lost his IBF belt last summer when he chose to fight Edgar Berlanga Jr instead of his mandatory challenger.
Word on the street is that the fight's almost ready to be announced. They're looking at Las Vegas as the place to do it. Riyadh Season's Turki Alalshikh is working hard to make it happen.
Andre Ward, who never lost a fight and won titles in two weight classes, thinks Crawford's got the edge. He said:
"I'm going with Terence Crawford. Big weight jump, dangerous fight, but somebody's got to prove to me that they can break Terence Crawford's will and that he can't figure it out against you. It ain't no disrespect to Canelo, but I've said this the last couple times, I'm not betting against Terence Crawford against nobody right now. You got to show me that you can beat him."
We'll know more soon about this super fight as the 2025 boxing schedule gets sorted out. It's shaping up to be a big year for boxing fans.
