Roy Jones Jr thinks Jaron Ennis has a shot at beating Terence Crawford. The boxing legend summed up Ennis' chances in five words: "If anybody can do it."
Crawford's been on top of the boxing world for a while now. He was the undisputed champ at super-lightweight, then cleaned out the welterweight division. He became undisputed in his second weight class when he beat Errol Spence Jr. And he didn't stop there. Crawford won a world title at 154lbs on his first try, beating Israil Madrimov by unanimous decision in August 2024.
There's been talk about Crawford fighting Canelo Alvarez, but the weight difference makes that less likely. A fight with Ennis is possible, but Crawford doesn't seem too interested.
Ennis, known as "Boots," is the IBF champ and a rising star at welterweight. He had two fights in 2024, stopping David Avanesyan in the fifth round and then winning a unanimous decision against Karen Chukhadzhian in November at the WellsArgo Center in Philadelphia. But his last performance wasn't his best.
Crawford reacted to Ennis' fight in a supportive way. He told Ennis to stay focused and keep working, instead of mocking him.
In an interview with Mill City Boxing, Roy Jones Jr shared his thoughts on a potential Crawford-Ennis fight. Jones said:
"That's almost a pick 'em. Terence early. Terence has been pound-for-pound for so long. Jaron is a guy that definitely has the power and the fireworks and the skill."
Jones believes Ennis has a chance, even if it's a tough one. With Crawford's track record and Ennis' skills, it could be an exciting match-up if it happens.
