Crawford wants to move up two weight classes to fight Canelo, possibly in 2025. At first, Canelo didn't seem interested, saying he wouldn't get credit for winning. But now he's open to offers.
De La Hoya thinks Canelo would win easily. He told Fight Hub TV:
"At 154, [Crawford] didn't really look too dangerous up in the ring, against a beast. So imagine Canelo being the bigger guy, being a beast, it's almost like a no contest."
De La Hoya points out that smaller fighters rarely beat bigger ones, even if they're both good. He said:
"I mean, come on, when has a smaller good guy ever beaten a good bigger guy. It's never happened in the history of the sport. It's rare."
But Crawford thinks he's skilled enough to make up for the size difference. Some experts, like famed trainer Teddy Atlas, agree with him.
The fight isn't confirmed yet. It's up to Canelo Alvarez to decide if he wants it. Crawford has even talked about retiring if it doesn't happen.
De La Hoya used to be Canelo's promoter, but they split up on bad terms. Despite this, he claims he can still be fair when talking about Canelo's fights.
