Jake Paul, the YouTuber-turned-boxer, beat 58-year-old Mike Tyson in an 8-round boxing match recently. The event got people talking, but not always in a good way.
Paul, who's 27, won the fight by a wide points decision. It was his 12th boxing match, adding another win to his record. Tyson, who retired back in 2005, didn't put up much of a fight.
The match broke records, but it also brought criticism. Many feel Paul is just going after retired boxers who are past their prime. Tyson, at 58, fits that bill.
Now, another older boxer wants a piece of Paul. Shannon Briggs, who's 53 and used to be heavyweight champ, says he'll take on the young fighter. Briggs hasn't been in the ring since 2016, but he's got some history. He won 37 fights in the first round and grabbed the WBO heavyweight belt in 2006.
Briggs also has a connection to Paul. He helped train Jake and his brother Logan early on. Speaking to Boxing Social, Briggs said:
"I didn't think much of it. He did what he had to do to get the money. It was cool, but I think Mike could've knocked him out. If he can't, I will – let's go champ."
Briggs isn't happy with how Tyson fought. He feels responsible for Paul's rise in boxing and wants to set things straight. Of course, the money wouldn't hurt either.
While current champs in three weight classes have called Paul out, he'll probably look elsewhere for his next fight. A match with Briggs could be interesting, but we'll have to wait and see what Paul decides to do next.
