Mike Tyson stepped back into the boxing ring after nearly twenty years to face Jake Paul, but the former heavyweight champ couldn't get the better of the younger fighter.
The bout took place on November 15 at the Dallas Cowboys stadium, with Paul winning by unanimous decision after eight rounds. At 58 years old, Tyson faced a significant age gap against the 27-year-old Paul, who's made the switch from YouTube star to professional boxer.
Tyson's return to professional boxing came with its share of challenges. In June, he went through a serious health scare that almost cost him his life. He needed eight blood transfusions, lost half his blood, and dropped 25 pounds while in the hospital. Despite these setbacks, Tyson was motivated to compete again so his children could see him in action.
After the fight, Paul shared his thoughts on a podcast called Impaulsive. He wasn't too impressed with Tyson's performance:
"I wish he would have put up a better fight so that I could have risen more and done more. He was surviving, so that was the only thing that I didn't like."
Paul also claimed that Tyson's punches didn't have much impact:
"[His punches felt like nothing] I didn't feel a thing to be honest. He didn't really land anything."
On the other hand, Tyson had a more positive outlook on the experience. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete one last time:
"This is one of those situations when you lost but still won. I'm grateful for last night. No regrets to get in ring one last time. To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for. Thank you"
Tyson also showed respect for his opponent, describing Paul as a "talented fighter."
With this fight behind him, Paul is already looking ahead to his next challenge. He's considering potential opponents like Carl Froch, Julio César Chávez Jr, or a rematch with Tommy Fury.
The fight between Paul and Tyson grabbed a lot of attention, showing that even after a long break from the sport, Tyson still draws interest from boxing fans.
