Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano faced off again in a thrilling rematch at AT&T; Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The fight, which took place on the undercard of Mike Tyson versus Jake Paul, ended with Taylor keeping her undisputed lightweight champion status.
The Irish boxer won by unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring the bout 95-94 in her favor. Taylor's victory didn't come easy, though. She got wobbled early in the fight and had a point taken away. Serrano, her Puerto Rican opponent, didn't have it easy either. She got cut badly from an accidental head clash, turning the match into a bloody affair.
This rematch followed their first encounter in April 2022 at Madison Square Garden. That fight, which Taylor also won by split decision, is now considered one of the best female fights ever.
Hall of Fame fighter Tim Bradley shared his thoughts on the rematch with ProBox TV. He said:
"When I scored the fight I had it a draw, that's what I had it, a draw, and if somebody should have won that fight, I actually thought Katie Taylor was going to win the fight and get robbed going in but I thought Serrano did enough to win the fight if anything on my scorecard."
Bradley added that if he had to pick a winner, he'd lean towards Serrano, especially considering the point deduction from Taylor. However, he stressed that he wouldn't argue with the official result.
Carl Froch, another boxing expert, felt Serrano won most of the rounds. The close nature of the fight and differing opinions from experts have sparked talks about a potential trilogy bout.
Bradley expressed interest in seeing a third fight between Taylor and Serrano, saying, "I would love to see a third fight, no doubt about it."
The intense nature of the bout had its consequences. Both fighters got suspended from boxing for a period following the match, likely due to the physical toll of their encounter.
As fans and experts debate the outcome, one thing's clear: Taylor and Serrano have once again delivered a memorable fight, further cementing their places in boxing history.
