Jake Paul wants to fight Saul Canelo Alvarez next. The 27-year-old YouTuber-turned-boxer made his intentions clear before his match against Mike Tyson on Friday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Paul, who holds a 10-1 record, sees the fight with Tyson as a stepping stone to bigger things. He's got his sights set on Canelo Alvarez, the 34-year-old Mexican four-weight champion.
"This moment will prove I'm the face of boxing, the largest attraction, and me vs. Canelo at 200 pounds for the cruiserweight championship of the world is the biggest fight, arguably even bigger than me vs. Tyson, and it makes so much sense," Paul said before the Tyson fight.
Paul didn't stop there. He continued to push for the Alvarez bout, suggesting that the Mexican star needs a big payday.
"Canelo is on his way out. He's going to want a payday and I want to show the world all the (stuff) I've been talking about beating Canelo is actually true and I'll have the biggest upset in the history of boxing. We'll fight to really see who is the face because after this event, I'm going to be claiming it."
After defeating Tyson, Paul doubled down on his callout of Alvarez, saying, "He wants a pay day and he knows where the money man's at."
Alvarez, however, doesn't seem interested. In a March interview with TMZ, he criticized the Paul vs Tyson fight, which Netflix broadcast.
"I think Netflix is good for boxing, but that special fight, I think Netflix is doing something wrong there. Netflix being involved (in boxing), yes, it's good, but not in that kind of fight. I think it's more show than a fight."
Paul's performance against 58-year-old Tyson, who boasts a record of 50 wins with 44 knockouts, might affect his chances of securing a fight with Alvarez. The boxing world will be watching closely to see if Paul can back up his big talk with actions in the ring.
