Teofimo Lopez Challenges Top Fighter's Legacy: "Your Prime Wins Don't Count"

Ronald Crawley Nov. 6, 2024, 5:10 p.m.

Lopez, who's held titles at lightweight and super-lightweight, claims Crawford's best opponents were past their prime when they fought. He's not shy about wanting to face Crawford at super-welterweight.

Speaking to 210 Boxing TV, Lopez didn't mince words:

"I just want to beat you guys cause you guys are not good. You don't believe in yourself. You don't. Because if you did you would have the tougher opposition and beat their butt, and better than me."

Lopez went on to break down some of Crawford's biggest wins:

"Errol Spence was washed when Terence Crawford fought him. Jose Benavidez was shot in the leg and had to prepare for a fight handicapped pretty much. You beat him, but you had a hard time those first four or five rounds. You want to talk about Shawn Porter? He was on his way out!"

Crawford, who's 41-0 and holds titles in four weight classes, recently made his debut at 154 pounds by beating Israil Madrimov. Many consider him the best boxer in the sport right now.

But Lopez isn't impressed. He's convinced Crawford won't fight him because Lopez is entering his prime. The 27-year-old, known for his wins over Vasiliy Lomachenko and Josh Taylor, added:

"Don't start with me, you don't wanna get there. Instead of talking about it, let's just make it happen. You know what's the problem? You guys know I'm about to touch my prime and you don't wanna see any of it. At all."

Crawford hasn't directly responded to the fight offer. He's warned Lopez about potential consequences outside the ring if the provocations continue.

Lopez often fights to the level of his opposition, which could make for an interesting matchup. But for now, it looks like Crawford isn't biting on the bait.
