Floyd Mayweather has picked a surprising name as his toughest opponent. The retired boxing legend, who ended his career with a perfect 50-0 record, chose Emanuel Augustus over more famous rivals.

Mayweather racked up world titles in five different weight classes from super-featherweight to super-welterweight. He beat a who's who of boxing greats including Manny Pacquiao, Canelo Alvarez, Oscar De La Hoya, Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto, Juan Manuel Marquez, Ricky Hatton, and Jose Luis Castillo.

But it's Augustus who left the biggest impression on 'Money'. The fight took place in October 2000 at lightweight. It marked Mayweather's debut in the division in a non-title contest.

Augustus didn't have the most impressive record. Before facing Mayweather, he had 22 wins, 16 losses, and 4 draws. By the end of his career, Augustus finished with 38 wins, 34 losses, and 6 draws. He got stopped 5 times in his 78 fights.

Despite stopping Augustus in the 9th round, Mayweather told Fighthub that the fighter's skills went beyond his record.

"Emmanuel Augustus was my toughest opponent. His record didn't show his skillset but this guy was unbelievable."

Mayweather's praise for Augustus comes as a surprise to many. The undefeated champ has faced some of the biggest names in boxing. He's also recently shared his top five fighters of all time, but it's clear that Augustus left a lasting impression on him in the ring.
