Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and David Benavidez might fight soon. Fans want to see it badly. Canelo sits at the top of the super-middleweight division. Benavidez wants a shot at the title.

Canelo collected all four belts and defended them four times. The IBF recently stripped him of one title for not fighting a mandatory challenger. Benavidez has done more than anyone to earn a shot at Canelo.

But Canelo doesn't seem interested. He claims Benavidez only brings "an extra 25 pounds on fight night" to the table. He also says he needs around $200 million to take the bout. Some think Canelo's avoiding the fight because Benavidez could cause problems.

Malik Scott, a former heavyweight contender turned trainer, shared his thoughts on the potential match-up in an interview with FightHype.

"I look at certain fighters and they remind me of, and I say this with all due respect, some gangster cartel s**t . That's what Benavidez reminds me of, and I heard that they [Canelo and Benavidez] used to box each other and it was beautiful. Do you know what I would have done if I saw them in the gym together, sparring each other? I would get my notepad out and I would sit there, with tonnes of humility, and take notes."

Scott wants to see the fight happen but worries it might not.

"I would most definitely love to see Canelo fight Benavidez, but that may be something that has the Joshua-Wilder effect too, the Riddick Bowe-Lennox Lewis effect, a great fight that may not happen. In my opinion [because of Canelo]."

When asked who he favors in the potential matchup, Scott didn't hesitate:

"Absolutely [I favour Benavidez]. S**t yeah. I would go with Benavidez in that fight, but I love Canelo, I love what he's doing."

Benavidez has moved up to light-heavyweight and holds the WBC Interim Title at 175 lbs. He hopes gaining titles in this division might convince Canelo to fight him.
