Makhachev may refuse to fight for the welterweight title. The reason has been announced

Islam Makhachev, the reigning UFC lightweight champion, responded when asked if he would seek a bout for the promotion's welterweight title if his teammate Belal Muhammad beats Leon Edwards.

"Uh... Belal is training with us. I don't know, bro, I don't know. He and I have the same manager. We'll figure something out. Belal's such a good guy. Against Edwards he will have a terrific fight, because Belal has waited so long for his chance and is training very hard, - said Makhachev in an interview with Weighing In.

Recall that the fight between Muhammad and Edwards will be held as part of UFC 304.
