Kambosos, coming off a majority decision win over Maxi Hughes in July 2022 where he underperformed, is seemingly intent on proving his mettle against a formidable opponent like Lomachenko. Despite acknowledging Lomachenko's high boxing IQ and historic achievements in the sport, Kambosos remarked, "He has an IQ like the Albert Einstein of boxing... A 100 percent Lomachenko has a lot left in the tank. But I don't believe he has that dog inside of him anymore. I don't think he wants it as bad as I do right now."
In preparation for the match, Kambosos described his training camp as having an extensive strategy and excellent sparring partners who emulate Lomachenko's style. "I'm very explosive and dynamic. I fear no man. I step to the best. My resume speaks for itself. I want a tough action fight. I want a brawl."
Contrarily, Lomachenko faced a competitive unanimous decision loss to Devin Haney in May 2022 and is eager to bounce back while addressing speculations about his waning skills at the age of 36.
