Teddy Atlas Names the One Fighter Who Can Beat Gervonta Davis: "He's Special"

None

Gervonta 'Tank' Davis and Shakur Stevenson might face off in a big lightweight clash. Former coach turned pundit Teddy Atlas thinks Davis is the only boxer who could beat Stevenson right now.

Davis, the WBA lightweight champion, has been busy lately. He stopped Frank Martin in August and knocked out Ryan Garcia with a body shot in April 2023. Now, he's set to defend his title against WBA junior lightweight champion Lamont Roach Jr. at Houston's Toyota Center.

Atlas had high praise for Davis in a recent interview:

"Tank Davis, right now he's in his prime, he can do everything. Forget about the fact that he is the hardest puncher, he is also a terrific counterpuncher, can set traps, and can set his legs when he wants to. He's patient when he needs to be patient, deliberate, cerebral, right now he's the full package."

Stevenson, who holds the WBC lightweight belt, has won his last two fights on points against Artem Harutyunyan in July and Edwin De Los Santos in November. Some critics say he's been boxing safely lately.

Stevenson was set to fight Joe Cordina in October, but a hand injury forced him to cancel. He'll be out until the new year.

Atlas thinks Davis is the only one who can solve the Stevenson puzzle:

"He is probably the only guy I can think of beating Shakur Stevenson right now, because Shakur Stevenson is that difficult right now 'cause of his style, his eyes, legs, his hand speed, the way he controls range. Tank Davis is the only man I can see that can possibly decipher that style."

The fight isn't set yet, but fans are already getting excited. Davis had been trying to set up a unification bout with Vasiliy Lomachenko, but Lomachenko decided to take the rest of the year off.

A Davis-Stevenson matchup could be one of the biggest fights in boxing. Both fighters are at the top of their game, and their styles could make for an interesting clash. We'll have to wait and see if this dream match becomes a reality.
