Regis Prograis commented on Devin Haney's recent defeat to Ryan Garcia, suggesting it was a result of karma from their past encounter. This insight came after Garcia delivered Haney his first professional loss over the recent weekend.
In December, Haney won decisively against Prograis in a super-lightweight match by dominating from its onset. Controversy arose due to Haney gaining 20 pounds between the weigh-in and fight night, which some believed helped enhance his performance. According to regulations, such a weight increase is not permitted at the 140lbs weight class they fought at.
When Garcia defeated Haney, he too had weight issues as he was three pounds over the limit on weigh-in day and settled the infraction by compensating Haney financially. However, Garcia controlled their bout decisively, knocking down Haney three times. Prograis underscored this situation as remarkably similar to his own issue with Haney, referring emphatically to it as karma.
"There were rumors that he [Haney] used I.V. drips and that type of stuff," said Prograis in his critique of their fight's fairness. "In my contract, it was illegal; you can’t put that much weight on."
Prograis appears unworried about past events as he reflected on the inevitability of facing one's actions' outcomes. “I am never one to complain about it," he continued, signaling a philosophical acceptance toward these developments in boxing dynamics.
Looking forward, there are talks concerning Ryan Garcia possibly moving up to welterweight for a potential clash with Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, following his successful win over Haney.
