Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou told why he didn’t chase an early victory in a boxing match with the WBC title holder in the heavyweight division Tyson Fury.
“He started the fight actively, I think he wanted to show that the ring is his territory, he wanted to let me know that he is the boss here. But I thought: “It won’t work out that way, I was born a fighter, and we will fight.”
I understood that he was very agile and therefore did not try to knock him out. I didn’t want to deal heavy blows from the very beginning, because I could make a mistake, and if the battle dragged on and I wasted my strength, then I would have a hard time. So I acted with restraint, calmly reacted to his speed and kept my hands high,” Ngannou said in the latest episode of his YouTube channel.
Let us remember that on October 28, Ngannou lost to Fury by a close split decision. During the fight, the Cameroonian managed to score a knockdown.
