Let us remind you that a few days ago Matush Gamrot was announced as the official reserve for the title fight, but for some reason the promotion’s choice fell on Volkanovski, whom the Dagestani defeated in February of this year.
“I thought the UFC would give me Gamrot in this fight. When they said it would be Volkanovski, it wasn't a big surprise because this guy... What does he have to lose? He takes the fight on ten days' notice. He doesn't need to put his title on the line. It’s just money, that’s all,” Makhachev said in an interview with Aaron Bronsteter.
Let us remind you that the fight between Makhachev and Volkanovski will headline the UFC 294 tournament, which will take place on October 21 in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
