Former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira On his X page he apologized to mixed martial arts fans after withdrawing from a rematch against the current title holder Islam Makhacheva, which was supposed to be the main event of UFC 294.

Let us remind you that the management of the promotion quickly decided on a replacement for the Brazilian - at the upcoming event, which will be held on October 21 in Abu Dhabi, Makhachev’s new opponent will be Alexander Volkanovski.

“I dropped out of the tournament because of what happened today at my last training session in Brazil. I can’t fly to a fight with such a serious cut. I had nine stitches and I’m not sure I can recover in such a short time and show a good fight. Together with the UFC, we decided to withdraw from the fight.

Many people are condemning me now, but I cannot go into this fight being 80% ready. This fight is very important for me, a lot is at stake, and I have to be ready for it 100%, or even 120%,” said the Brazilian.
