When Jermell Charlo (35-2-1, 19 KOs) entered the ring to fight Canelo, he still had three of his four middleweight belts, and Tim Tszyu (23-0, 17 KOs) immediately received the status of a full champion according to the WBO version. The champion has responsibilities to challengers, but Charlo chose a higher-paying offer from Saul Alvarez, despite Tszyu having long been his mandatory opponent.
“Charlo didn’t give the fight to Canelo, he didn’t put up any resistance at all. At some point it seemed to me that he entered the ring simply to survive. He didn't pick up the pace, even when the coach yelled at him that he was losing, and focused solely on his defense. His tactics were to move around the ring and take as few blows as possible from Canelo,” said Kostya Tszyu’s son.
In just twelve days, the Australian will defend his full title of the World Boxing Organization in the weight category up to 69.85 kg for the first time in his homeland. Strong will come out against him Brian Mendoza (22-2, 16 KOs), who has fights with Jason Rosario and Sebastian Fundora.
