Top Spanish-Georgian UFC featherweight Ilia Topuria spoke about the growing popularity of mixed martial arts in Spain. The 26-year-old fighter is confident that the UFC tournament will be able to fill the 83,000-strong Santiago Bernabeu, the home stadium of Real Madrid.
“I see how MMA is developing in Spain, it's incredible. When I started training, no one in Spain knew about this sport. They asked me stupid questions like: “Do they hit each other there?” Now in Spain they love MMA and follow the UFC. I have no doubt that a show in Spain will sell out all tickets in any arena in one day.
Where to host a UFC tournament? At the Santiago Bernabéu, the stadium of Real Madrid. There will be a full house, I'm sure. I think many Europeans will want to come. You live in France or Sweden, and here the UFC tournament is relatively close. Why not visit?" Topuria said on The MMA Hour show.
Recall that last weekend Topuria defeated Josh Emmett by unanimous decision.
