Munguia defeated Derevyanchenko in a close fight

Undefeated ex-world champion in the weight category up to 69 kg Jaime Munguia (42-0, 32 KOs) won a hard-fought unanimous decision victory over the 37-year-old former world title contender Sergei "Technician" Derevyanchenko (14-5, 10 KOs) in Super Middleweight in the main event of the evening at the Toyota Arena in Ontario, California.

The fight from the first gong took place in a stubborn struggle, and both fighters clearly invested in their blows. Derevyanchenko shocked Munguia in the third and fifth rounds and seemed to be better at the beginning of the fight. Munguia shocked Derevyanchenko in the eleventh round and sent him to the floor with a blow to the liver in the twelfth round. Derevyanchenko was able to reach the final gong. Judges score: 115-112 and twice 114-113 in favor of Munguia.

According to the scorecards, after ten rounds, Derevyanchenko was leading on two maps 96-94. On the third map there was a draw 95-95. Ironically, Golden Boy tried to take the fight from twelve rounds to ten and even offered a nearly six-figure sum, which was turned down. In the end, as it turned out, Derevyanchenko did this Munguia a favor, as Jaime needed the last two rounds to keep his 0 on the losing chart.
