Antonio Tarver unhappy with last choice Saul Alvarez (59-2-2, 39 KOs) and would like him to give a chance to someone who really deserves it. The Mexican recently boxed with an ambitious, but not the most dangerous opponent for himself in the face John Ryder (32-6, 18 KOs), and Tarver believes that David Benavidez (27-0, 23 KOs), WBC interim champion, deserves his chance.
“It’s still the same Canelo, but he needs to think about when to leave. He needs to pass the baton to the one who deserves it. If this is the last fight, even if you have to fall to the floor, make it a worthy challenge,” said Tarver.
“I think that Alvarez should fight who deserves it, who, in his opinion, if he wins, will be worthy of being called a leader. If he beats who he needs to beat, showing that he is still the great Canelo, then that's fine. But with giving us fights like Ryder, I think it's time to give someone like David Benavidez a chance," Tarver added.
