Maybe boxing fans won't see a promising super middleweight bout between Saul Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs) and David Benavidez (27-0, 23 KOs) in 2023.
Although Benavidez nailed Saturday's win over Caleb Plant for the WBC belt, Canelo appears to have other plans now than a mandatory defense against the "Mexican Monster."
As Eddie Hearn said in an interview with SecondsOut, Alvarez's team has already approached him with a request to organize a rematch with Dmitry Bivol (21-0, 11 KOs) in September. Earlier, Alvarez will face John Ryder (32-5, 18 KOs) on May 6, while Bivol will face a top 15 WBA light heavyweight contender on June 17.
“Canelo is ready to fight anyone. Let's talk about Mexican monsters - did you see what Canelo did to Caleb Plant?... David Benavidez is a much easier opponent for Canelo than Dimitri Bivol at light heavyweight. Great fight, but much lighter than Bivol,” Hearn said.
