Kell Brook (40-3, 28 KOs) announced his retirement, but in a few months he will be glad to return to the ring. Much will depend on the outcome of Saturday's battle between Chris Eubank Jr. (32-2, 23 KOs) and Liam Smith (32-3-1, 19 KOs).
It will soon be a year since Brook, the former world welterweight champion, last fought when he celebrated a great victory over longtime foe Amir Khan. It was the perfect retirement, but Kell seems to be drawn back to the ring.
“Brooke is going to be keeping a close eye on Saturday’s fight and he seems desperate to face the winner of Eubank vs Smith. After defeating Khan, he wanted to face Eubank, so he will be at the ringside on Saturday. He will be ready to come back to fight the winner, whether it's Eubank or Smith,” said Ben Shalom, BOXXER CEO and promoter of Saturday's tournament in Manchester.
In addition, Brook may wait longer for his return if Smith wins this fight, because the contract for the fight has a unilateral rematch clause, which in case of defeat is guaranteed to Eubank Jr.
