American David Benavidez believes that he does not need to hold any intermediate fights in order to get the opportunity to compete for the championship title. According to Benavidez, he did enough to fight the undisputed world super middleweight champion Mexican Saul Alvarez.
“Everything that is happening right now just doesn’t make any sense. I've won eliminators and just won the "provisional" title. I think that now fighters simply do not respect championship titles. If you do not respect the championship title that you own, then why do you need it?
I am number one in our division and I am the mandatory challenger. I think Alvarez is saying a lot of shit about me because he just doesn't want to see me. He knows I'm the biggest threat at 168 pounds," Benavidez was quoted as saying by BoxingScene.
David is expected to fight his compatriot Caleb Plant on March 18th.
