Dubois stops Lerena despite three knockdowns

WBA regular heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois (19-1, 18 KOs) hit the floor three times in the first round, but eventually stopped Kevin Leren (28-2, 14 KOs) in the third round of the Fury-Chisora undercard main event on Saturday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

Lerain unexpectedly sent the convincing favorite Dubois three times in the first round, and only a gong saved Dubois from an early defeat. Then, for some reason, Lerena slowed down in the second round and allowed Dubois to recover. Dubois took full advantage of this courtesy and reversed the dominance in his favor in the third round. He knocked down Lerena, and then fell on the ropes with blows to the sound of a race. The ropes did not allow Lerena to fall, and the countdown began, but referee Howard Foster gave the go-ahead to stop.

The gong sounded nine seconds early in the first round, which clearly played into the hands of Dubois. Conversely, Lerena remained on his feet after the gong rang in the third round, but Lerena did not get a minute between rounds to recover.
