Golovkin on Alvarez's biggest weakness: "Arrogance is punishable"

Gennady Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) did not forget about the scandal surrounding the doping test involving Saul Alvarez (57-2-1, 39 KOs). Back in 2018, Canelo and Golovkin were supposed to meet, but the fight was canceled and eventually rescheduled for September after Canelo tested positive for the banned clenbuterol. Canelo was suspended for only six months and soon resumed his career.

"I don't think it can ever be forgotten," Golovkin said in an interview with NY Daily News. — Some have come to terms with this situation. Some don't want to keep thinking about it. Some turn away from him."

In 2017, Golovkin and Alvarez fought to a controversial draw, and then Canelo won a very close decision in their rematch. They will face off in a high-stakes trilogy this coming Saturday as Golovkin moves up to super middleweight and challenges Canelo for his undisputed title. In recent weeks, there has been no shortage of words exchanged between both fighters.

“Canelo doesn’t bother me at all, but when a person has a lot of bad traits that prevent him from living a normal life,” Golovkin said, “that’s his problem. This is what we are seeing right now."

Canelo suffered his first loss since 2013 when he lost to WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol in May of this year.

“In his last fight, you didn’t need a knockout to defeat Canelo,” added Golovkin. “It is encouraging that the judges are no longer loyal to Canelo. They no longer feel the burden of his name."

Golovkin also cited Canelo's biggest weakness as a fighter: "It's arrogance, and arrogance is punishable."
