Undefeated Jai Opetaya (22-0, 17 KOs) despite a broken jaw in a stubborn battle, he defeated Mairis Briedis (28-2, 20 KOs) by unanimous decision in a hard-fought bout in the main event of the evening at the Gold Coast Convention Center in Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia. Judging scores: 116-112, 115-113 and 116-112. Thus, the relatively unknown 27-year-old Australian left-hander defeated the world's number one cruiserweight and became the owner of the IBF champion title.

According to Opetai's corner, he received a jaw injury in the second round of the fight.
