“I weighed too much. In the next fight, I should be two or three kilograms lighter, ”admitted Sergey Kovalev (35-4-1, 29 KOs) after his cruiserweight debut.

Former three-time light heavyweight champion after defeating Tervel Pulev (16-1, 13 KOs) was not entirely satisfied with his performance. However, he promises that one more fight in the new limit and he will be ready to meet the reigning champions.

“I would like Sergey to enter the old limit of the cruiser category, which is 190 pounds (86.15 kg). Every two or three kilograms over is a lot for a distance of ten rounds. We do not need to worry that the opponent will be a little heavier than us, Sergey should be lighter in the next fights. He himself admitted this, which makes me very happy. Right now we just need to stay active because a two and a half year break is a very long time,” said James “Buddy” McGirt, Kovalev’s coach.
