Legendary Roy Jones Jr. talked about a possible fight between two, perhaps, the best P4P boxers at the moment, Saul Alvarez and Oleksandr Usyk.

On January 29, Canelo, the super middleweight king, will be watching Ilunga Makabu and Thabiso Mchunu fight for the WBC cruiserweight belt. If Makabu defends the title, he is expected to face Alvarez in May.

“If Canelo stays in the cruiserweight division and they allow me to retain the heavyweight titles, then I will happily return to 200 pounds for such a fight. I will face Canelo and return to the heavyweight division,” said Usyk, the IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight champion, who will face Anthony Joshua, whom he defeated on points September 25, next year.

“Usyk has no reason to return to the first heavy weight and fight Canelo. In my opinion, Usyk is too big for Canelo. He can easily beat the Mexican. What can make the heavyweight champion of the world go down the weight divisions down? Let's see what happened to Chad Dawson when he transitioned from light heavyweight to super middleweight and was defeated by Andre Ward. It was the end of Dawson's career at the highest level,” said Roy Jones Jr.

“Usyk will have more fights with the biggest stars in the heavyweight division. If he gets twice as much for a fight with Canelo as for a rematch with Joshua, maybe he should think about a confrontation with Alvarez," added Jones, a former world champion in four weight categories, including heavyweight, at one time the best boxer in the world and one of the best fighters of all time.
