Ilunga Makabu (28-2, 25 KOs) currently holds the world title in the cruiserweight division. Five and a half years ago, he was beaten by an already retired Tony Bellew, although in the first round he was on the floor himself. Since then, the Congo puncher has remained undefeated and will likely welcome the famous Saul Alvarez (57-1-2, 39 KOs) in the cruiserweights.
Makabu believes that the advantage in strength and physical size will do its job, and has already announced his readiness to take such a step. Former rival Bellew advises him on how to beat the red-haired pro boxing star.
“Ilunga has to start stronger and faster than usual if he wants to beat Canelo. He goes into the fight slowly, he likes to look at the situation and at his opponent, so I tried to immediately rush him when we fought for the WBC belt. I didn't want to give him a chance to wait for the next rounds, because in them Makabu is dangerous, but with someone like Canelo he will have to fight very quickly. Makabu must use a strong left hand from the first round. Canelo will be heavier than usual, so it may lose some of what makes it unique. But no matter how many pounds Alvarez brings with him, it’s Makabu who will be the bigger guy and he should use that. It will be a big advantage for him if he gets this fight," Bellew said.
