Former UFC bantamweight champion Jose Aldo revealed that he could have fought Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2016, but the Russian rejected the promotion's offer.

"I got a call from my trainer saying the UFC was offering a fight against Khabib. I said yes, I said we're in. I was the featherweight champion at the time, and Khabib knew it wasn't the best idea for him, so he said no. I don't know what he was thinking at the time or if he had another fight planned. I think we could have had a great fight.

I wanted to test myself. Everyone thinks I do a lot of wrestling, but I don't. I usually do a little training with my team. Khabib would have a tough time as well, because I'm great at defending against take-downs," MMA Fighting quoted Aldo as saying.
