Shakur Stevenson and Teofimo Lopez are getting closer to a showdown at 140 pounds. The WBC lightweight champion and WBO super lightweight titleholder have reignited talks for a potential clash.

Stevenson's team started looking at other opponents, including Lamont Roach Jr., after initial negotiations stalled. The lightweight champ had shown interest in facing Lopez after defending his title against William Zepeda.

Lopez took to social media platform X to challenge Stevenson directly. He made it clear the fight had to happen at 140 pounds. Stevenson responded with an angry emoji, seeming to accept the terms.

Stevenson has competed at lightweight since 2023. He's now agreed to move up to super lightweight for the Lopez fight. Lopez holds the WBO belt in that division and won't budge on the weight requirement.

The fight won't happen in 2025. Lopez says he wants the clash to take place early next year. There are rumors he'll participate in the undercard of a Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis exhibition fight before then.

Fight fans are eager to see this matchup come to fruition. They'll have to wait a bit longer as the details get ironed out between the two champions.
