The box office bout between Tommy Fury (7-0, 4 KOs), cousin of world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, and extremely popular blogger Jake Paul (4-0, 3 KOs) is officially confirmed. Fury-Paul will take place on December 18 in Tampa, Florida.
In August of this year, Tommy Fury beat Anthony Taylor in a pay-per-view broadcast on Showtime TV, then a few hours later fought the winner of the night's main event fight, defeating former UFC champion Tyron Woodley, Jake Paul.
In April, Paul defeated another UFC fighter, Ben Askren. Paul's confrontation with Tommy Fury is likely to be a pay-per-view main event, which should bring in big profits in the United States. The pay-per-view broadcast of the fight will also be in the UK, where Tommy Fury is already a star thanks to his appearances on reality TV.
The sporting level of this fight is likely to be low, but it's worth acknowledging that Paul and Fury are ambitious and spectacular celebrities. Tommy, in particular, has a lot to prove, as his famous boxing family half-jokingly states that if he loses to Paul, he will be disinherited and shamed.
