Khabib Nurmagomedov thinks Conor McGregor can turn his life around. The former UFC champion shared his thoughts on his old rival's potential comeback to the sport.
McGregor and Nurmagomedov had one of the fiercest rivalries in MMA history. It reached its peak in 2018 when Khabib submitted McGregor in a UFC fight. Their feud went beyond sport, with McGregor making fun of Khabib's religion and family, and even attacking a bus with Khabib inside.
Since losing to Khabib, McGregor's career has taken a downturn. He's lost two of his last three fights. His last bout was in 2021 against Dustin Poirier, where he suffered a serious injury. Outside the octagon, McGregor has faced controversies involving parties, alcohol, and accusations of sexual assault.
Recently, McGregor posted an image confirming his return to the testing pool. He's now subject to doping control and might be aiming for the White House card in 2026. At 37, he has two fights left on his contract.
Despite their past, Khabib believes McGregor can change. In a chat with Miftaah Institute, Khabib said:
"Allah always gives us the opportunity to return... No matter how bad you are. I think he has a chance and he has to change his way of living. If he changes, he can change many other lives with him too. That's why I wish he would change himself."
Khabib points out that McGregor is the most media-friendly fighter in the company's history. He thinks a change in McGregor's lifestyle could bring positive things to society, given his status as a role model for many.
While Khabib and McGregor will never be friends, Khabib hopes McGregor can make a complete turnaround. He suggests McGregor should return to proper training and retire on a high note from UFC. The White House event could be a dream finale for McGregor's career.
