"Wilder has a few more good years ahead of him in boxing. He will still be a big threat to everyone," believes Bob Arum, co-promoter of Tyson Fury (31-0-1, 22 KOs), who stopped Deontay Wilder (42-2-1, 41 KOs) twice in a row.
The Englishman ended the long reign of the "Bronze Bomber" on the WBC throne, having sat on it for over five years and successfully defended the title ten times. However, Fury has also suffered significant damage in his last two fights.
"Wilder will still be a tough opponent for the better for one simple reason. He's still the best puncher in the world, no one hits as hard as he does. It's a little bit like stepping into the ring with a gun and he can shoot at any moment. And if it hits, it knocks you down. I wouldn't be surprised if it soon turns out that, other than Tyson Fury, no one else has a chance against him. In my opinion, Wilder has a few more good years ahead of him," added the head of the Top Rank promotion.
"Wilder recently underwent surgery and his return is tentatively scheduled for the first half of next year. The doctors are happy with the surgery. Deontay will have to rebuild his arm for about three months, but he will be ready to fight next spring," said Shelley Finkel, the Bronze Bomber's longtime manager.
