Oscar Valdes (29-0, 23 KOs) and Robson Conceição (16-0, 8 KOs) settled under the welterweight limit at the official weigh-in ceremony before the boxing night in Tucson, Arizona. Valdes weighed 130 pounds (58.96 kg) and Conceição weighed 129.6 pounds (58.51 kg). At stake in their meeting will be the WBC world title held by the Mexican boxer. Valdes tested positive for doping before the fight, but he was allowed to fight under certain conditions.
