Mike Tyson thinks Floyd Mayweather should step back into the ring against Terence Crawford, not Manny Pacquiao. The former heavyweight champ shared his thoughts on Mayweather's potential comeback during a chat on The Big Podcast with Shaq.
Mayweather hasn't fought professionally since he beat Conor McGregor in August 2017. That fight capped off a 21-year career that saw him win world titles in five weight divisions and take down some of the best fighters of his era.
On the podcast, Tyson suggested Mayweather could make some serious cash by fighting Crawford. He said:
"If he wants to make some money… he could fight the wonder guy, not Manny Pacquiao, Manny won't fight him again, but I'm talking about [Terence] Crawford … if you want money, you know."
Crawford, nicknamed 'Bud', is a 37-year-old unbeaten fighter from Omaha. He's won world titles in four weight classes and has been the undisputed champ at both super-lightweight and welterweight. Many consider him one of the best boxers of his generation.
Right now, Crawford's got his hands full with another big fight. He's set to face Canelo Alvarez on September 13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. If Crawford wins, he'll make history as the first boxer to be undisputed champ in three different weight classes.
Tyson's idea of a Mayweather-Crawford match-up is interesting, but it's just talk for now. Mayweather, at 48, might not be keen on facing a prime Crawford. And with Crawford's upcoming Canelo fight, a bout with Mayweather seems unlikely in the near future.
Still, in the world of boxing, you can never say never. Fans will have to wait and see if Mayweather decides to lace up the gloves one more time, and who he might choose as an opponent if he does.
