Guillermo Rigondeaux (20-1, 13 KOs) will face John Riel Casimero (30-4, 21 KOs) on August 14 in Carson at Showtime. The duel of the Cuban and the Filipino was announced at the end of May, but in June Rigondo was replaced by Nonito Donaire. The Cuban was not injured, but agreed to withdraw from the fight on condition that this fall he will meet the winner.
Donaire pulled out of the fight a few days ago, accusing Casimero of unwillingness to join the occasional Olympic doping screening system ahead of their August showdown. Rigondeaux did not put forward such conditions and agreed to a duel.
Casimero and Rigondeaux will fight for the WBA and WBO bantamweight belts. Probably the winner of the fight will cross gloves with Naoya Inoue of Japan at the end of the year.
