Anthony Joshua (23-1, 21 KOs) is hoping to convince Deontay Wilder (42-1-1, 41 KOs) to take the step aside money and give up a rematch against Tyson Fury (30-0-1, 21 KOs). This may be another version of the events, which will lead to a unification bout that will determine the undisputed heavyweight champion.
At the moment, Joshua owns IBF, WBA and WBO belts. Fury sits on WBC throne for a few weeks, but according to the contract he's forced to a rematch against Wilder. Purses from their third fight will be divided 60 to 40 in favor of the Englishman. There is even a proposed date for their third fight - October 3 in Las Vegas. However, if Wilder agrees to be paid off for giving up his rematch claims, boxing fans could find out a single king of the heavyweight division in just a few months.
"Anthony has the date of June 20th, but probably his fight is in July. I hope that July is a real date. However, if the situation is such that he will be able to fight only one time this year, we will try to organize a fight against Tyson Fury. But in this situation, Bob Arum and Al Haymon would have to persuade Wilder to give up a third bout against Fury for some time. Then we could get a duel with the Fury," Eddie Hearn, the promoter of AJ said.
"We'll find out whether Wilder is ready to take the money and wait a little longer with a third fight against Fury. It really depends on him. If he agrees, then I'll have to convince Kubrat Pulev to wait for a fight against Anthony, but it should be easier than convincing Wilder. Joshua is very interested in a fight against Fury now, it would be the best solution. It would be nice to come back after the break with so much force," the head of Matchroom group added.
