Promoter Oscar De La Hoya has denied that his fighter Saul Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 KOs) has already chosen his next opponent. Recently, there was an informal information that the Mexican would meet Billy Joe Saunders (29-0, 14 KOs) this year.
"That's not true, I do not know who spread this information, but Saunders is definitely not on the first place in the list of our candidates. I'm going to Mexico to meet Canelo on this issue. I think that decision will be made in a few days," De La Hoya said.
It is expected that the Mexican will return to the ring on May 2 on a night of boxing in Las Vegas. Alvarez had his last fight at light heavyweights, but after winning the WBO belt he left this trophy vacant, showing that his next performance will be in a different weight category.
In May Canelo may fight Callum Smith (27-0, 19 KOs), who is WBA super middleweight champion. Last time the Englishman fought in November, and he has repeatedly predicted as the rival of Canelo.
