Benavides stops Dirrell

David Benavides (22-0, 19 KOs) scored a KO win over Anthony Dirrell (33-2-1, 24 KOs) at the evening of boxing in Los Angeles and became the new WBC super middleweight champion. Until the moment of the stoppage the 22-year-old fighter was confidently leading on points.

In the sixth round Dirrell missed a straight left, which cut his right eyelid. From that moment for 34-year-old Dirrell it became difficult to see clearly with his right eye, and he missed more and more punches. Dirrell's corner withdrew his fighters in the ninth round to protect him from further punishment.

Benavides regained the title he lost last year because of a positive drug test. In his next fight the American will have to defend his belt against Avni Yildirim.
