Lomachenko and Campbell will challenge the vacant WBC title

The WBC announced that the lightweight championship title, which was left vacant by Mikey Garcia, should be challenged by Luke Campbell (20-2, 16 KOs) and WBO and WBA title holder Vasyl Lomachenko (13-1, 10 KOs).

The decision of the World Boxing Council is unique because it is extremely rare when other versions champion gets a chance to fight for the vacant title. The last time this was in the battle of Wladimir Klitschko against Anthony Joshua. Then the WBA put its vacant trophy on the line in this fight.

WBC also proposes to hold a tournament, the winner of which will become a mandatory challenger. In the semifinals, Zaur Abdullayev will meet Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez will face Javier Fortuna.
